All of you are probably aware that for many years white walls were seen as signs of a luxury automobile. Probably from the 20s (or maybe earlier) up through the 60s. Just like fake boobs (or maybe the right analogy is push-up bras) allow people that might not be amply endowed to look like they are, some people wanted to be seen having white walls but not pay the price. So for a long time you could buy white rubber circles that could be hot-glued to your black walls to give the appearance of white walls.
When I bought my 49 Hudson I thought it had real white walls. But after I hit a rock in a gutter while parking (at low speed) and thought I might need a new tire, I discover it too had falsies. Oh the humanity!
4 new tires from Coker are on their way.

If it ain't poured in the side of the tire, it ain't worthy.

Are the new tires real white walls? Or are you gonna put on some more falsies

I have always loved this look on a classic car:

Ha! The tire guy said "if they're like fake boobs, you should just get much bigger fake whitewalls". But no, I'm going with the real ones this time.

I like that on mid-60s to early-70s performance oriented cars. Definitely like the rims on that one.

so you had port-a-walls? You can usually spot then though because they leave a good lip at the edge.

wide whites were a post war to mid 50s trend by early 60s thin white walls were the hot thing.

Yup. They were really well done. I looked closely several times while washing the car.

OR you could get wheels that are made to look like they have white walls
Yup. All that white is actually the wheel. I feel like I'm tripping balls.
